The mural has been very well received and we would like to thank everyone for the support. A couple of us are away for the summer but when we are all back in Brooklyn we will get crackin on some screen printed posters.

The mural was designed with site-specific ideas in mind: lines of seven colors meet corrugated vertical bars of the fence behind it. Our concept mimics and bends these lines, creating a colorful graphic symbolizing the constant movement of DUMBO. The design is an abstracted interpretation of intersecting train tracks and the familiar New York City subway map.
The use of vivid colors against the urban backdrop of grays and browns is intended to brighten the landscape and produce a visceral and emotional reaction, while referencing the cross-sections of cultures and people who view it.
Our process involved intensive taping and painting to implement the design effectively. In an effort to bring together our creative community, fellow Brooklyn-based artists and friends volunteered their time to assist us in creating the mural in Red Hook Studios. Our process can be seen in the slide shows below.

Mikell is a graphic designer based in Brooklyn, NY. He is currently Director of Design at noise – an interactive marketing agency specializing in product innovation for young adults.
While growing up in the culturally diverse Mission district of San Francisco, Mikell became fascinated with the music, murals, and graffiti that engulfed the world around him. He uses this inspiration to find visual solutions for a range of well known clients.

Heidy is a designer based in Brooklyn NY. A graduate of Parsons School of Design (2003 BFA in Illustration), she is currently working on her Masters Thesis in Industrial Design at Pratt Institute.
Her work is inspired by nature, her urban environment and the ability of objects to tell a story and leave an impression on a person’s psyche.
In her current work she seeks to explore the intersection between art and design.

Sam Vernon is currently Director of the Prince George’s County, (Maryland) Art in Public Places program. She graduated from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in 2009 with an award for Excellence in Drawing. Vernon is a 2010-11 A.I.R. Emerging Artist Fellow and recipient of the A.I.R. Emma Bee Bernstein Fellowship. Her first solo exhibition, Think On It—Then Lay It Down For Goodwas on view at A.I.R. Gallery March 29 - April 24, 2011. She curated POST, the Recent Graduate Exhibition Booth at the Affordable Art Fair, May 4 - 8, 2011. Vernon serves on the Advisory Board for Momenta Art and was recently accepted into tART, a contemporary feminist artist collective in New York City. She has exhibited with The Invisible Dog Art Center, The Wassaic Project, Skylight Gallery, and Lesley Heller Workspace.
